About the Programme

Palm Strings outreach, Masiphumelele and private students play at a wedding together
Titia's pupils from Masiphumelele team up with her private pupils to provide unforgettable wedding music.

Titia started teaching in Masiphumelele as part of the Bishops/Living Hope Outreach Program in 2011. The progam sees young children learning to play the violin in groups, by ear. You will already find them busking in Fish Hoek, Simonstown and Noordhoek on any given free day. She is teaching the children to play in ensemble the way she does...teaching them a lifeskill that will turn them into productive adults.

I especially wanted to thank you for having the kids play - it was one of the most special moments of our entire trip and they were all so gracious, professional and talented

One of her first students has just won a scholarship to attend Wynberg Girls High School in 2016. Her main ensemble will be performing at their first wedding on the 23rd October. The dream is to have their own venue where children can come in the afternoons to practise as they live in crowded conditions at home and finding a place to play is problematic.

To book these young children to perform at an event please contact Titia

To support the initiative (violins, bows, strings, rosin, transport and food money are always needed) or if you would like to support a particular child to pay for individual lessons at R1100 per term, please contact Titia for list of worthy candidates to choose from.

Outreach forms an important part of what we do and we strive to support young previously disadvantaged musicians who want to excel. We expose them to live playing at wedding events, corporate functions, and birthday parties.
